Garrett Newton

Your host

Garrett Newton is a gifted young banjo player from Eastern North Carolina. At a young age, he began attending local bluegrass picking sessions and quickly became enamored with the traditional bluegrass sound. He has devoted significant time to learning the history and absorbing the recordings of the first generation of bluegrass artists and it clearly shows in the style and drive of his banjo playing.

Their 2017 release, YOUNG HEART, OLD SOUL, on Pinecastle Records showcased how raw, young talent paired with veteran bluegrass musicians, offers a new sound that is sweet music to the genre. The single, “Country Poor and Country Proud” charted on both the Bluegrass National and Roots Music Report charts. Current Garrett Newton Band members include: Garrett Newton, Banjo; Parks Icenhour, Lead Guitar/Bass Vocals; Allen Dyer, Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals' Lorraine Jordan, Acoustic Bass/Tenor Vocals; and Daniel Aldridge, on Mandolin/Baritone Vocals and Matt Hooper on Fiddle.

Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road

Pinecastle recording artist Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road has all the essential ingredients necessary to deliver world-class bluegrass music – tight vocals, scintillating instrumentation, and a charismatic stage show that engages audiences of all ages. And why not, as a band they have nearly 20 years of demonstrable success and collectively Carolina’s Road’s journeyman performers: Lorraine, Ben Greene, Tommy Long, Randy Graham, and Matt Hooper, have enjoyed over 100 years of successful experience, yet play with the same energy and enthusiasm as they did as “youngsters”. Put simply, Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road deliver the goods!

Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road are certainly no strangers to industry accolades either. Known as the “Lady of Tradition”, Lorraine has notched two IBMA “Recorded Event of the Year” awards in 2009 and 2011. She was also honored with SPBGMA’s prestigious “Female Vocalist of the Year” trophy in 2015. The same year, Carolina Road’s stellar banjoist, Ben Greene, walked away with the organization’s “Banjo Player of the Year” trophy.

Carolina Road has consistently delivered major chart action that includes 3 number #1 hits: “A LIGHT IN THE WINDOW”, “THAT’S KENTUCKY”, and most recently “TRUE GRASS”. “True Grass” hit #5 on the country chart, #1 ranking on the Roots Music chart, and topped the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey with an astounding record breaking of 4 consecutive months.

Musicianship + high energy showmanship + award winning music = a crowd pleasing show that sells tickets and makes Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road one of the most sought after bands in bluegrass music.

When not on the road or making music at someone else’s event, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road produce and host several events per year. Concerts at Lorraine’s Coffee House & Music, in Garner, NC, plus two successful festivals: “Bluegrass Christmas in the Smokies”, in Pigeon Forge, TN, and the “Willow Oak Music Festival”, held in Roxboro, NC are just a few things the band gets into when not touring. Plans are now on the table for a new festival. The inaugural “North Carolina Banjo Fest” will honor the banjo’s role and the state’s rich history in bluegrass music, and will be held in Clemmons, NC in the fall.
